Small Business Ideas Can Help You
My Family Life, Business Ideas and Work
I operate a small business. For over two years I've spent time building "Small-Business-Ideas-Digest" for you. Most of my friends call me Tommy, however, close
relatives call me June. And in the neighborhood where I grew up I'm Junior Lee. At home
I'm 'Daddy' and Tommy.
When I met my wife, Verna, in 1972 we spent time going to music concerts, jazz and poetry readings. In our creative art workshop we produced plays, art and craft shows. My original goal after I was discharged from the Air Force was to move to Memphis, Tennessee. My dream was to establish myself as a songwriter since I'd been writing lyrics for about six years.
Besides songwriting I was also revising a novel that Toni Morison had interest in. But within six months after my discharge I was working fulltime as a Photo Lab Technician at Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg.
Verna and I married in 1973 and Cherisse was born also that year. My writing faded into the background once I decided not to revive my novel. However, my business ideas helped me improve to establish a freelance photography
business. My self employment increased and after five years working for the Federal
Government I quit and put
my interest into my own small business.
When I look back now I shake my head. Owning a small business and being self-employed is a goal that many seek, but it's
easier said than done. If you learn what's required the steps can be mastered and you can
develop a profitable business.
My Schooling
While stationed at Minot AFB I completed a Photography and a short story course by mail. My desire in reading introduced me to these courses. So when I was discharged I had over three hundred pounds of books shipped home.
My parents didn't finished junior high school but they felt that we should at least graduate from High School. None of my siblings went directly to college after High School. I went to Hinds Junior College for two years at night. I took a number of business classes and quit after earning sixty four credit hours.
During the ten years I worked as a Photo Lab Tech I attended a Professional Photography
class, along with courses in high speed and color processing. I tried to keep abreast operating my small business by reading articles and subscribing to photography magazines.
In 1988 we moved to Charlotte, N.C. My neice had moved there from Kenosha, Wisconsin sometime earlier to manage a hair salon. Due to our spiritual enviroment we immediately had associates.
My goal was to find work as a Photographer but needing income I worked as a mailroom
assistant and a floorcare specialist before being introduced to
another small business, house painting. John, a good friend, hired me to work with him. Although I started getting my own contracts we still worked with one another We returned to Vicksburg after nine years, but Charlotte is considered our home because of all of our friends.
I've studied insurance and completed some of the requirement to market term insurance. However, I've allowed house painting to dominate my working schedule
for over twenty years. When I quit working for the government I operated a janitorial service for a number of years. In addition, I've ran newspaper routes for close to four years and also learned merchandising.
All of these fields took training. My knowledge improved and the skills I obtained increased in value. On occasions some incident would stir my emotions that
a poem would develop from the experience.
How My Self-Employment Led to SBI
Since self-employment require personal and hands on attention I began to seek a way
to solve the issue. Especially after reading Robert Allen's book "Multi Streams of Internet Income" I got a better understanding on how important it is to have a system to generate
income. This publication introduced the reader to those who had sucessfully used the internet to build a business that did not require a lot of personal attention.
I purchased this book in 2004 and discovered SBI as an affiliate who offers assistance in building an online business. You can learn how this system can work for you.
