Free Advertising Can Build Your Business
Free advertising strategies are necessary when you have a tight budget. And most of us have that when we
start a small business. When most of us start a business our first market is local. Therefore our aim is to find low cost advertising.
This type of communication is usually without direct contact.
Let’s examine three strategies:
Local sales
Cold calls
Telephone sales
Referral calls
Door to door
When we look at most of these some of us become intimidated. Yes, it’s somewhat easy calling on someone who has been truly referred. Example: “Mr. Jones, a good friend of your, Mr. White, suggested I
call you. He told me that you’re a very good golfer.”
Mr. Jones responds. “Is that what he said? Now he know he plays a better game. __ How’s is he doing? It’s been a few weeks since we played.”
In this example you knew something about the man. You know his wife’s name. The children’s name.
Where he works. His age. So isn’t this better than a list of names? Mr. Jones feel that you’re his friend.
What about cold calls, telephone sales and door to door?----------Practice. Practice.

them that you’re available to talk about what you do and how your service can help them.
Look at the chart and outline one similar. What steps can you take today? What are the characteristics of your target market? Which sales strategies have the best chance of reaching this target market? Does the
